I had registered for the Firefox 3.0 Download Day 2008 event to set a Guinness World Record as the most software downloaded in 24 hours. When the event started last night at 01:00am (HK local time), I was working on my presentation practice stuff. As you may imagine, the server went down due to the flood of download attempts. When I finished my work, the server resumed and I installed Firefox 3.0 after it was officially rolled out for just 2 hours!
I did not try the RC (1) before and thus I was exciting to see the new interface. The first impression Firefox 3.0 gave to me was: faster, notably faster!
This is an unusual comment to a new software version, especially if you use Microsoft product regularly. Nearly all next-versions of MS product is notably (if not intolerably) slower then their precedence. Firefox 3.0 demonstrates to many software vendor what a next-version should behave. According to CNET news, the download rate is topped at 14000 per minute. I am also impressed by the graph of market share against hours. I believe every company is dreaming of having such a plot (of course, with the upward trend like this one) for their business.
When I was chatting with Circle about the new Firefox 3.0, I suddenly recall why I was looking for him days before. That was about the VMWare Server 2.0! I can still remember on that night when I successfully find him, I totally forgot about what question I wanted to ask. The bad feeling has struggled me for days, but resolved itself without a notice.
The question is that, I cannot install VMWare Server 2.0 onto both my desktop at home and the notebook at office. This is not a known issue and no solution was found on the net. However, during the searching, I noticed that VMWare Server 2.0 received quite a number of dissatisfaction that it includes only a web interface. This might look trendy to move the VM console to a web interface, but for home users, this would be an inconvenience move.
Remarks:
(1) RC stands for Release Candidates, the last version just before the official release, should be identical to the official release if no bugs were found
